Human Genome Genesis 1:1

Genesis 1:1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

One of the hardest truths for humans, especially those of us in the West to understand is that we do not have it all figured out. We can try all we want to get our minds around this universe and all its mysteries, but we will never understand or explain it. Have you noticed the great sense of accomplishment when the human Genome was mapped? It was hailed as the answer to all human diseases. The media hailed it as demonstrating the superiority of the human mind. And yet scientists are finding DNA much more complicated than they had imagined. Its workings are complex, divinely complex. And yet for those of us who believe the Scriptures, the infinitely intelligent Creator designed DNA with all its complexity. This verse talks about the moment before the “Big Bang” which scientists theorize is the place things started. It allows them to ignore the true origins of the universe. It allows them to ignore the fundamental question of who pushed the plunger of this supposed “Big Bang.” But the complexity of the environment necessary for life to exist on earth is so great that chance plus matter plus time could not account for life’s existence. God had to be involved or there would be no life anywhere. Hugh Ross, an astrophysicist and Jesus-follower, writes and speaks about this statistical impossibility of life’s existence. If it weren’t for God’s active hand in the universe, life would not exist anywhere (see http://www.reasons.org/). From the smallest known structures of life, DNA, to the largest structures needed for life, the universe, God’s direct guidance was and is needed. So if God existed before the beginning so that He could create this universe, shouldn’t we spend some effort getting to know Him? I noticed that your name is not in this verse. Neither is mine! This One who made life here on earth possible wants us to seek Him. Will you do that earnestly this year? I hope so.
